Role of planets in astrology and horoscope

We have now finished a common description about the rashis from the previous lessons. Now the second major term that you have to be familier with is Planets. In the usual sense the planets are heavenly bodies that revolve around the sun or such stars. But here, in astrology the term planet has a different meaning. In astrology the planets are bodies which affect the life of a man or an event.

In vedic astrology it is beleived that the planets standing in various positions (as we are know advancing in astrology we can say Rashis) influences the life of the people. At the time of birth of a baby we can calculate the positions of the planets in the space and its effects on the new born baby can be studied. Thus by studying the influences of the planets, we can easily predict the events of the life of the child in future. Thus the chart which shows the positions if the planets in the space along with predictions is called a horoscope .

From the positions of the planets in the time of birth we can predict about the appearance, nature, luck and all the things concerning the life of an individual. From the horoscope we can predict which education will he receive, what will be his profession, about the family and much more. If done in an accurate manner, with the help of horoscpe we can even predict the daily happenings in the life of a person. But it requires a thorough knowledge of the subject and complex calculations.

When we studied aboutThe Rashis it was explained that the rashis are taken with respect to the earth, or the earth is considered as origin. Similarly the planets are studied in this way. We are living on this planet earth and the effect of other planets on us are calculated. Thus in astrology mainly 9 planets are considered for the prediction of future. They are 1) Sun (Ravi) 2) Moon (Chandra) 3) Mars(Mangal) 4) Mercury (Budha) 5)Jupiter(Guru)6)Venus(Shukra) 7) Saturn(Shani) 8) Rahu 9)Ketu

After reading this the first thing you may think will be that the sun, moon, Rahu and ketu are not planets. But as I have already told you here we take the term planets for the bodies which affects the life of a person. Rahu and Ketu are not even heavenly bodies and they are two points in the space and in the western astrology they are popularly known as node and anti- node.

You may have also heard stories about the Rahu as a demon having only head and no body swallowing the sun. It is just a story with some truth hidden it. But such stories have created many misconceptions in peoples mind that astrology is a fake science based on mere stories. It is not so. As our study progresses I will give the scientific explaination of Rahu and ketu . In Kerala astrology another planet called Gulika is also considered for accurate predictions.

Rashis in Horoscopes

Astrology is a science, which explains the events that have happened and going to happen in a person's life. In the basis of date and time, the vedic astrology explains the events in the persons life, who is formed by the combination of a body made of the of Panchabhoothas, mind, senses and soul. Not only the events in the life of a man, but also each and every happenings in this universe can be explained on the basis of astrology. Thus there is nothing in this universe which can not be explained by the great science of astrology.

I think from the previous lesson you would have understood that the Rashi is the unit used to divide both space and time into twelve equal parts. Each of the twelve division is called a Rashi. Each rashis are given specific names for convenience. The names given to the twelve rashis are 1) Mesha(Aries) 2) Vrushabha(Taurus) 3)Mithun(Gemini) 4)Kark(cancer) 5)Simh(Leo) 6)Kanya(Virgo) 7)Thula(Libra) 8)Vrishchik(Scorpio) 9)Dhanu(Sagittarius) 10)Makar(Capricorn) 11)Kumbh(Aquarius) 12)Meen(Pisces)

It is the first steps in this astrology to learn these names fluently if you do not know them. It should be such fluent that if I say 6 th rashi you should understand it is Kanya.

In the vedic astrology we consider a circle of 360 degrees around the earth which extends to the whole universe, which can be divided into twelve parts or rashis. Now you know the names of rashis as well. When We know that the planets are not static and they are revolving around the sun. Thus in a specific point of time, each planets will be in one of these Rashis. It is the basic principle of astrology. When an incident takes place the planetary positions in the rashis are considered and the whole incident can be explained with the help of these planetary positions in the Rashis.

Same is in the case of the birth time of a child. At the time of a particular child birth, the positions of the planets in the various Rashis are noted and this data is used to predict the future of the child. This is called a horoscope.

You may have seen the natal charts in the horoscope. It shows the positions of the planets in various rashis. There are many styles to draw the natal charts. But they all show the position of planets in various Rashis. The main style are north Indian and south Indian styles of chart making. Now each column in these charts represents a rashi and the planets in this rashis are shown in short forms of their names. Do not panic if you are not able to understand. This is just to show how these look like. We will explain it in detail in the coming lessons. To learn more also view :Basics of Rashi

Basics of Vedic astrology-Rashi

First of all my congratulations for your interest in astrology. It is great science and I am sure that it can improve the life of the people to a large extend. Our ancestors had left us with such a great knowledge which can be used to improve the life of all the people in the world. Then why cant we use for the success of our life?

It is usually found that many fake astrologers are cheating the people with their limited knowledge of the subject or they are not ready to take the pains for the correct analysis of the horoscope. So it is better to know the basics of the subject to let you not cheated by some one. It is a divine and complex science but it is easy to learn if you dedicate some time for it.

My approach is to start from the basic itself for the people who does not had the luck know even the basics of the subject. First of all I am going to introduce to you some basic terms of Astrology. Read the descriptions about the terms two or three times and grasp it in your mind as without these terms you can not proceed further in astrology. Some of the terms which I am going to tell you about are : 1) Rashi (Sign), 2) Grahas(Planets) ,3) Nakshatra (Star zones) ,4) Bhava(Houses), Dasha (Periods) and Lagna (Ascendant).

1) Rashi (Sign)

Its not so easy to grab the concept of rashi, so read it many times and make sure that you understood the concept fully. The word Rashi may have many meanings in the regional languages but in the vedic astrology it is a way to measure the space and time in a single unit. Now consider an example, if some one ask you time you will tell them time is 3 am , 5 pm or like that. Or if a person is standing near you, you will say he is standing in front of you or in the back or in the left side of you etc. In astrology we use the term Rashi to describe both, the time and the space around you. Now I will explain how.

Take the case of Time, in our day to day life, the time is divided into 24 hours or 24 parts. In astrology we divide the time from both sunrise to sunset and the sunset to sunrise in 12 parts and each part is called a Rashi. In case of months also we can divide the whole month into 12 Rashis. The whole year is also divided into 12 Rashis. Thus all the divisions of time can be described in 12 parts of which each part is a Rashi. Each rasi is given a name .

Now the case of space around you. Consider the situation that a person is standing near you. Imagine a circle which is of 360 degree around you and you in its centre. The whole circle is divided into 12 Rashis or twelve equal parts of 30 degree each. If names are given to each Rashis, you can easily say the person near you is standing in which portion of the circle or which Rashi around you. You can imagine a circle with any thing in its centre and can describe the rashis attached to the circle. You can imagine a circle around you, your house or a tree or anything. In the same way you can divide the solar system by considering a circle of 360 degrees around the earth. We can explain which planets are now standing in which rashi and so on. Like wise the whole universe can also be divided into 12 rashis.

Thus Rashi is a term used to describe both the space and time. Now it is the beginning and if I give the scientific explanations of these divisions many people may not be able to understand. So we can discuss it later. In the next post the Names of the Rashis and other important information about Rashis will be explained.

Hope you understood something about the signs or rashis. In case of any doubts please leave a comment here and I will try explain it with my best effort.

Introduction

Astrology is a great science which was developed by our ancestors, the great sages and saints of our ancient India, for the use of the generations coming ahead. When many people hear the name astrology, they says it is a fake pseudo science and not science. Yes it is a pseudo science because in todays context the theories of astrologies can not be proved because it will require a great effort and even a lifetime may not be enough for proving just one theory of astrology.

When we learn the Characteristics of the moon in the Astrology, it has been said that Moon has "Jala Thatwa" or the water content in it. Some years back when NASA, the space agency of USA told the world that there is no water in moon, some people made it a weapon against the astrology. They said NASA has proved that there is no water in moon but astrology says there is the content of water. So astrology is wrong. What is the present scenario? It has been discovered that moon has water content. How did a vedic saint came to know about the water content in moon ? It is the level of consciousness they reached and the knowledge they possessed. The science will take centuries to experiment and approve the theories of Vedic Astrology.

A vedic saints whom were leading a simple living in their small Ashramas came to knew about the secrets of Universe by only the means of their mind. Today even to prove the water content in the moon and for further studies it took millions of money and the work of thousands of men. When we co-relate these two sides we can understand the Importance of the ancient vedic knowledge. The youngsters today believe that only the western things and culture is great and we are the old cultured people. They are not ready to accept the legacy and heritage of our great Bharatha Bhumi and sleeping the sweet sleep of Ignorance.

I am a Life time astrology student and researcher in the subject. I am not writing this blog to show off the writing skills of mine. I am not a skilled writer but started writing this blog to introduce the base concepts of Astrology to the sleeping Indians. When I started to learn astrology I searched in many sites for the good info in the subject. But the sites which provide such knowledge were very few and the people who dont have base on astrology can not read or understand them. So it such a place where the beginners can come and learn astrology.

Here my mission is to spread the knowledge in astrology. Here I will write the lessons in simple and understandable way so that any one can understand the basic concepts of astrology and can use it for the development of their life.
